Let me tell you alittle about myself...
About me...
I suppose I’ll go as far back as 2007. I still remember the day, it was July 3rd, and I was 9 years old. My dad and I were getting ready to see a little movie called, “Transformers”. As were getting ready to leave the house to go the theatre, I remember seeing on tv, behind the scenes content from making this blockbuster. It’s funny to look back into my little 9-year-old brain watching the giant robots throwing punches on the big screen. If only I could go back and tell my younger self how much seeing that movie was going to change my path in life. Now looking back as an adult, I can understand why some people didn’t like the movie and its sequels, but every time a new Transformers movie comes out, all of a sudden, I’m that 9-year-old kid again. I fell in love with Transformers because of the artistic talent behind bringing the massive robots to live action and over time I came to realize the magic of an idea, image, or concept can be used as a vehicle to bring people to happier times in their lives. It gives them, even if just for a moment, the feeling of peace from a better and simpler time.
Although Transformers has a large impact on my interests. It didn’t get me to focus on a specific career. The things that helped shape me into what I am driven to do today were the horror movies I watched in my later teen years. More specifically a movie called, “The CAVE“. I enjoyed the movie a lot. I thought it did something that hasn’t been seen much since The Decent. Which is taking the tight spaces of a cave deep underground with no way to get out and no rescue coming while being hunted by creatures that can see in the dark and know the cave as its home. Somehow, I stumbled upon a video online of some behind the scenes content of the process of making the creatures. I don’t think this is the exact video that I’m referencing but it has a lot of the same points (the part of the video I’m talking about starts at 7:50). In the end what they had was something that was fictional, but equally as terrifying because of it being grounded in reality.
I hope I didn’t lose you there. I could talk about this stuff all day. To wrap up, while watching this video I became fascinated with the extraction of someone’s ideas through conversation and translating that into something both artistic and meaningful. That’s what drives me to do what I do. My dream is to be a concept artist someday, to be able to create things that can impact another child’s dreams and/or give someone an escape from the reality, that for most of us, can get too overwhelming sometimes.
